Learn Minibridge!
The first event of the Under 14 Championship will be played in Minibridge format — the perfect way to start your bridge journey! It's simple, fun, and you can learn it in just 9 steps.
🌟 What is Minibridge?
Minibridge is a simplified version of bridge that lets you focus on the most exciting part: playing the cards! Instead of the complex bidding system, you simply count your points and choose your contract. It's the perfect stepping stone to full bridge.
🎯 9 Easy Steps to Play Minibridge
🎴 Each Player Has 13 Cards
Bridge is played by 4 players in two partnerships sitting opposite each other. Each player receives 13 cards from a standard 52-card deck.
🔢 Count Your Points
Look at your hand and count your High Card Points (HCP) using this simple system:
📣 Announce Your Points
Starting with the dealer, each player announces their point count out loud, going clockwise around the table.
👑 The Declarer & Dummy
In the winning partnership, the player with more points becomes the Declarer. Their partner becomes the Dummy and will lay their cards face-up on the table.
🃏 Dummy's Cards Go Down
The Dummy places all 13 cards face-up on the table, organized by suit in columns. Everyone can see these cards!
🎯 Choose Your Contract
Looking at both hands, the Declarer chooses how many tricks to win and whether to play in a trump suit or No Trumps (NT).
There are three levels of contracts you can choose:
These are the minimum level contracts. The Declarer commits to winning at least 7 tricks:
- 1NT = 7 tricks with no trump suit
- 1♠ = 7 tricks with spades as trump
- 1♥ = 7 tricks with hearts as trump
- 1♦ = 7 tricks with diamonds as trump
- 1♣ = 7 tricks with clubs as trump
If successful, you score points — but not many!
These are Game contracts. The Declarer commits to winning more tricks:
- 3NT = 9 tricks with no trump suit
- 4♠ = 10 tricks with spades as trump
- 4♥ = 10 tricks with hearts as trump
- 5♦ = 11 tricks with diamonds as trump
- 5♣ = 11 tricks with clubs as trump
If successful, you score much more than a partial score!
The Declarer commits to winning 12 tricks. If successful, you score very high points!
Promise to win ALL 13 tricks for the highest score possible!
▶️ The Opening Lead
The player to the left of the Declarer plays the first card. This is called the "opening lead." Play continues clockwise.
🎮 Playing the Cards
Each player must follow suit if possible. If you can't follow suit, you can play any card (including a trump to win!).
• The highest card of the suit led wins
• UNLESS a trump is played — then highest trump wins
• The winner leads the next trick
🏆 Scoring
After all 13 tricks are played, count your tricks! Did the Declarer make their contract?
❌ Went down? Defenders score for each trick under the contract!
